The bill looks exorbitant. Once completed, the wall that Donald Trump promised to build on the border with Mexico will have cost $ 11 billion (10 billion euros), according to the United States Customs and Border Protection, project manager.
According to American public radio NPR, this would make the Trump wall the most expensive wall in the world. In total, it should cost almost 10 million euros per kilometer. By comparison, the Israeli-built wall in the Gaza Strip cost "only" $ 3.1 million per kilometer.
Ultra-secure doors
This disproportionate cost could be explained in part by the numerous equipment associated with the wall: lighting, video surveillance cameras, not to mention the construction of the road which will allow patrols to go alongside the wall. The project also includes the installation of automatic doors, estimated at $ 1 million per unit.
And the bill could further lengthen, specifies the NPR. The American services have requested the release of funds to allow the construction of an additional 430 km of wall. A request that is currently being studied by the Pentagon.
