Clément F. was arrested on Saturday in Paris as part of the demonstration of `` yellow vests '' - HANDOUT / AFP

  • A video circulating on the Internet shows a policeman hitting a young man on the ground, bloody face, twice.
  • It was filmed during the arrest of Clément F., this Saturday in Paris, on the sidelines of a demonstration of "yellow vests".
  • Police say they saw the young man attack the police. He will soon be tried in correctional for these facts.

Images of his arrest have spread around social networks. At the end of his police custody, the demonstrator hit on the ground by a police officer, Saturday in Paris, was presented this Monday to a magistrate of the parquet floor. The latter who notified him of his upcoming summons to the criminal court, said the prosecution. Arrested near the Gare de l'Est station after attacking the police during the demonstration of "yellow vests", Clément F., 20, will be tried for violence on persons responsible for public authority , rebellion and participation in a group with a view to committing violence and degradation.

In a press release, his lawyers rebelled against this coming trial "while an investigation is opened at the IGPN at the request of the Paris prosecutor's office" for the alleged violence against the police officer who hit the young man.

Originally from Ille-et-Vilaine, Clément F. has, according to our information, asserted his right to silence in front of the police officers who questioned him. But four officials who intervened at the time of his arrest filed complaints against him and, for some, told in detail the course of events.

Bottle spray

It all starts in the early afternoon, this Saturday, said the police in their testimony. They are on the rue du faubourg Saint-Martin side, in Paris, when they notice a small group of demonstrators throwing projectiles at CRS. Among them, a man dressed in a gray jacket, black jogging pants and white sneakers, hood on the head, hiding his face. The police see him throwing a glass bottle at a crossing guard. The individual then attacks a police commander who is arresting a protester. On several occasions, the young man punched and kicked this policeman to let him go.

"To put an end to the ongoing aggression", the police officers beat him twice with a "flexible stick in the upper part of the body". Clément F. falls to the ground. He tries to get up to flee, rebels, harangues the crowd, report the police. When the latter decide to arrest him, demonstrators throw bottles and stones at them. A peacekeeper struggles to take him to a quieter area. Very quickly, the latter finds himself alone with the young man, lying on the macadam, face in blood.

"I have AIDS, you are going to die"

According to his version, this agent tries to come to his aid when Clément F. clears his throat and spits in his face the first time. "I have AIDS, you're going to die," he says, while preparing to start again. The officer then struck him on the left cheek to prevent him from doing so. Taking advantage of a moment of inattention from the policeman who alerts his colleagues, Clément F. spits in his face a second time. The grievor, who has saliva and blood on his forehead and his protective glasses, then strikes him again. "It was the only solution for him to stop spitting on me," he explained in his complaint, consulted by 20 Minutes .

Clément F. is then transported by the fire brigade to the Bichat hospital. The police officer who arrested him was examined at Begin hospital, where a doctor decided to put him on triple therapy.

Quickly, the video of the arrest circulated on social networks. "Shocking images", judged this Monday the Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, wishing that "the truth be made on this act". "The prefect of police immediately contacted his services to understand them, to see if they can find an explanation," added the first French cop. Before concluding: “At the moment, I don't see any.
