January 20, 2020 Germany will host a second conference in Berlin next month to monitor the situation in Libya. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced this morning.

"We decided to organize a monitoring conference at the level of foreign ministers in early February," explained the head of German diplomacy. The question, after yesterday's progress, is to reach a full truce and start a political process that pave the way for lasting peace, added Maas. At the end of Sunday's summit, world leaders pledged not to interfere in the conflict in the North African country and to support the arms embargo.

"All states agree that we need a political solution and that there is no chance for a military solution." So yesterday Angela Merkel spoke to the press at the end of the Berlin international conference on Libya . "We have developed a very broad plan - he says -, everyone has collaborated in a very constructive way, everyone agrees that we want to respect the arms embargo with greater controls than in the past".

Italy is ready to play "a leading role in monitoring peace in Libya", said Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, who is in Brussels after Berlin today to participate in the Foreign Affairs Council, which must give a first response to the steps taken at the international conference held on Sunday in the German capital on the Libyan crisis. "I guarantee that we will work closely to achieve the common goal: the end of hostilities," adds Di Maio in the Facebook post. The head of Italian diplomacy recalls how, among the points agreed in Berlin, there are many of the proposals on which Italy insisted: "Respect for the arms embargo with relative sanctions for those who violate the rules, the need to act only through political actions excluding military ones and constant monitoring of the situation in Libya ".

Meanwhile, calm has returned to Tripoli, after the new violent clashes that took place on Sunday evening south of the capital, along the axis of the road that connects the airport to the southern plateau. The clashes erupted shortly after the conclusion of the international conference convened in Berlin to try to restore peace in Libya. And the artillery shells, a source told the Libya Akhbar site, were perfectly heard throughout the capital.
