Amal al-Hilali - Tunisia

The Tunisian presidency announced this evening, Monday, that President Qais Saeid instructed former Minister Elias El-Fakhfakh to form the new government, ending this controversy and speculation after the failure of the Prime Minister nominated by the Ennahda movement, Habib El-Gamli, to gain the confidence of Parliament.

Hours before the constitutional deadline expired, the Tunisian presidency announced the assignment of traps among the dozens of candidates whose parties represented in Parliament submitted their names to the presidency.

Al-Fakhfakh (48 years old) combines scientific competence in the field of engineering and business administration with political experience, where he became involved in political work after the revolution with the Democratic Bloc Party for Work and Liberties.

He also took over the ministries of tourism and finance in the Troika government, which ruled for two years, starting in late 2011, and included the Renaissance, Bloc and Congress parties for the Republic. He also contested the last presidential elections.

Many disagree about the classification of the personality of the new Prime Minister-designate between the one who considers him close to the revolutionary trend and the line of President Qais Saeed, and who considers him a figure close to the centrist forces and parties, especially the social left.

The traps have a month to form his government and present it to Parliament, according to the requirements of Chapter 89 of the Constitution.

If members of parliament do not give confidence to the new government, the President of the Republic will have the right to dissolve Parliament and call for new legislative elections within a period of 45 days and a maximum of 90 days.

The Democratic Current party (22 deputies out of a total of 217 deputies) and "Long live Tunisia" (14 deputies) - strongly support - assigning traps, while leaders of the "Heart of Tunisia" party (38 deputies) announced their absolute rejection to it, while the Renaissance movement did not express (54 deputies), i.e. reservation on his person.

President Said met with candidate Elias Al-Fakhfakh last Saturday in the framework of his consultations with a group of party candidates, such as the two former ministers Hakim bin Hamouda and Fadel Abdel-Kafi.

Party positions
The leader of the Democratic Current Party, Ghazi Al-Shawashy, said in a statement to Al-Jazeera Net that assigning the President of the Republic to traps is a bias towards the revolutionary forces and parties, and the values and goals of the revolution, given the efficiency of the man and the cleanliness of his hand, he said.

Al-Shawashy pointed out that the traps are supported by both his Democratic Party and the "Long Live Tunisia" party, pointing out that he carries a national social project, and he is one of the biggest believers in the values and principles of the revolution.

Regarding the chances of the new Prime Minister-designate to gain the confidence of Parliament, Chaouchi expressed optimism about the ability of traps to assemble the largest parliamentary belt around him.

For his part, Osama Al-Khulaifi, a leader in the “Heart of Tunisia”, expressed in a media statement his refusal to nominate the traps to head the government, stressing that his government will not win the confidence of the next parliament.
