Denise Betsema, 4th in the last Cyclo-cross World Championships and provisionally suspended since April, received a six-month sanction for doping, the UCI announced on Monday.

Her suspension started on April 5, so the Dutchwoman has already served her sentence and can therefore resume competition.

Betsema was sanctioned due to the presence of anabolic steroids in his analyzes during two races, the World Cup round in Hoogerheide (Netherlands) in January 2019 and the Superprestige round in Middelkerke (Belgium) on February 16, 2019 .

"The case was resolved by accepting the consequences in accordance with the world code," said the UCI, adding that the decision could be appealed by the Netherlands anti-doping agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Betsema, which will celebrate its 27th anniversary on Thursday, obtained its first significant results during the last winter season. She won the bronze medal at the European championships (3rd) before finishing at the foot of the podium at the Worlds.
