According to the agency, around 01:00 on January 18 (21:00 Moscow time Friday) at the Novosibirsk airport, the engine of the A-321neo aircraft owned by S7 Airlines ignited. The incident occurred when the engine started.

The plane was planning a flight en route Novosibirsk - Kamran (Vietnam), with more than 200 passengers on board.

“The aircraft’s commander’s launch (engine. - RT) was interrupted, the fire extinguishing system was applied, as a result of which the fire was eliminated,” the ministry said.

While waiting for the backup liner, passengers were provided with hotel rooms and meals.

As TASS reports with reference to the Tolmachevo airport information desk, the reserve board with passengers safely departed at 12:30 (08:30 Moscow time).

Earlier media reported that the passengers of the liner were evacuated in Novosibirsk before takeoff.
