A 26-year-old man was sentenced on Friday by the Doubs Assize Court to 15 years in prison for having fatally stabbed a nightclub bouncer who had refused access to one of his friends, an accomplice, who was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. Four other accused, found guilty of "complicity in murder", received sentences ranging from three to eight years in prison.

On April 23, 2017, around 3:00 a.m., Mamadou Diedhiou, 35, bouncer at the Styl nightclub in downtown Besançon, was stabbed to death. Twenty minutes earlier, he had refused entry to Fahrat Cid, a regular who did not want to pay the regulatory 5 euros. Feeling "humiliated", after being grabbed by the bouncer, he called his brother, who came to lend him a hand with four other people.

Up to twenty years required

The six men had surrounded and struck Mamadou Diedhiou and one of them, Hichem Djebaïli, 26, had taken a knife from his pocket, hitting the victim in the heart. "Mamadou Diedhiou never had the ability to defend himself," said general counsel Margaret Parietti, before requesting sentences of eighteen months to twenty years' imprisonment.

"Why did I make these gestures towards Mamadou Diedhiou? He had done nothing to me… ”, questioned the author of the stabbing, who said he was“ sorry ”. His lawyer, Julien Charle, pleaded "good faith" and the lack of intention to kill of his client, who had gone himself to the police station a few hours after the facts. "The gesture is his, he recognized it, the consequences are unintended," he said.

Verdict under tension

Fahrat Cid is "the instigator", noted Margaret Parietti, "I put him in the lead in accomplices to murder, because it is the trigger", who called the others for "a punitive expedition" against Mamadou Diedhiou . For the lawyer for the family of the victim, Sandrine Arnaud, "all these people contributed to the death of Mamadou Diedhiou", a man "so affectionate, so kind, so gentle", who fell under "an outburst of violence ".

When the verdict was announced, the police had to intervene to calm the families, which almost came to blows, by rejecting responsibility for the tragedy.
