Oleksiy Honcharuk is accused of derogatory statements against the president who, he claims, lacks basic economic knowledge. His resignation has yet to be accepted by the President.

With our correspondent in Kiev , Sébastien Gobert

Oleksiy Honcharuk, 35 - and the youngest head of government of independent Ukraine - has always presented himself as a serious lawyer and Prime Minister, in a three-piece suit, law-abiding.

But to announce his resignation, he did everything backwards. He first announced it on his Facebook account, and sent his letter of departure to the president, not to the Parliament that elected him. He explains: “ I took up my duties to apply the President's program, which is a model of honesty and righteousness for me. It is up to him to assess my effectiveness. "

Bad signal

This unexpected initiative concludes a micro-scandal of a few days. Audio recordings have indeed been made public on which we can hear the voice of the Prime Minister who mocks the primitive understanding of the economy by the President.

The publication of these recordings gave rise to heated discussions between the two men. Is it enough to bring down an entire government? If the resignation is indeed accepted by Volodymyr Zelensky, it would send a bad signal for the structural reforms undertaken by a fragmented executive. Reforms that have already experienced complications in recent weeks.
