January 17, 2020 At Palazzo Chigi the meeting this morning between government and unions on the cutting of the tax wedge. Present the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri and the Deputy Minister Laura Castelli, the Minister of Labor Nunzia Catalfo, and the general secretaries of CGIL, CISL and UIL, Maurizio Landini, Annamaria Furlan and Carmelo Barbagallo.

The cut of the tax wedge will affect about 16 million workers: this is what is learned from government sources.

The cut of the tax wedge will affect incomes up to 40 thousand euros, with an extension of the bonus 80 euros, up to 100 euros per month, for those who earn up to 28 thousand euros. This is the hypothesis illustrated by the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri at the table with the unions in progress at Palazzo Chigi, according to some participants. From € 28,000 and up to € 35,000 it would reach € 80 a month and over € 35,000 to € 40,000 it would drop to € 40. Above this threshold there would be deductions instead of bonuses. The measure to proceed with the reduction should be a
law decree.

"In the budget law we have allocated 3 billion euros for 2020, which grow to 5 billion euros starting from 2021, in order to reduce the tax wedge entirely for the benefit of workers. In spite of what some propaganda has claimed , this measure is proof that our economic move really reduces taxes for families and workers. " Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said so - as far as we learn - during the meeting with the unions.
