Horses rescued from the Philippine Taal volcano eruption - 20 Minutes

They escaped it beautiful. Horses, survivors of the Philippine Taal volcano eruption, were saved by their owners in extremis . The latter returned to the island, despite the evacuation order, for a perilous mission: to save their precious animals from lava and ashes.

More than a dozen of these horses were transported out of the volcanic island in small boats to the town of Balete, on the banks of Lake Taal, south of Manila.

A significant livelihood

These horses, which numbered several hundred, are used to walk tourists on the winding paths of the volcanic island, and can bring in seven dollars each, on each outing.

A major source of income in a country where millions of people survive on less than $ 2 a day.
