The German government has officially announced the leaders of states and international organizations invited to participate in the Berlin conference on the Libyan crisis at the level of heads of state and government, which included some modifications to the original list of the "5 + 5" group.

After the Moscow talks that did not produce any result on achieving a truce in Libya, this conference is currently scheduled to pave the way for a political solution, with the aim of reaching an international agreement in the first place, because both sides in Libya are strongly supported by many countries.

The Group of Five permanent members of the Security Council

  • Algeria: She was not invited to the conference despite her long borders with Libya (about 1,000 km) due to the crisis she experienced after the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on April 2.
    After the election of President Abdel Majid Taboun, last December, he confirmed that Algeria will remain active in the Libyan crisis "whether he likes it or not, nor does he want it."
    Then, his country was invited to the Berlin conference with the support of Turkey and Russia, the UN envoy Ghassan Salameh and the Libyan government.
  • Congo: At the last minute, I was invited, given that the African Union mandated its president, Dennis Sassou Angesso, three years ago, to chair a high commission on the Libyan crisis.
    Brazzaville is seeking to host an African meeting on January 25th, when the foreign minister visited several countries in the north of the continent, headed by Algeria, Egypt and Mauritania.

  • Tunisia: Although it is the most neighboring country in Libya and affected by the war, especially since its borders with it are close to 500 km, it has not been invited to participate. Despite Turkey's insistence on her presence, and Chancellor Angela Merkel called President Qais Saeed to invite him to visit her country without participating in the Berlin conference. The matter prompted the ambassador to Berlin, Ahmed Blade, to express his country's great surprise and surprise at the decision to exclude it.
  • Qatar: It is among the countries that support the reconciliation government, and Turkey has insisted that it attend the budget of the countries supporting Haftar and participate in the conference. Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani has made it clear that his country's exception to the invitation to the conference may be due to reasons related to the host country or the United Nations.
