According to the press service of the President of Ukraine, Trudeau expressed gratitude for the efforts to ensure access of Canadian specialists to the site of the tragedy, and also asked for Zelensky’s assistance in a dialogue with the Iranian authorities during the identification of the bodies of the dead, among whom are Canadian citizens.

“Ukrainian specialists and diplomats are ready to comprehensively assist Canadian colleagues in Tehran in their work,” Zelensky emphasized.

He confirmed his readiness to provide logistical assistance in the return to Canada of the remains of dead Canadian citizens after completing the necessary formal procedures in Iran.

The leaders, as indicated, advocated further coordination of efforts to ensure proper international legal responsibility of those responsible for the crash.

Ukrainian Boeing 737 crashed on January 8 shortly after flying out of Tehran, killing 176 people.

On January 11, Tehran admitted that the air defense system mistakenly shot down an airplane, mistaking it for a cruise missile. Iran announced the arrest of several people in connection with the crash of a Ukrainian plane.
