Pakistani justice last month sentenced former President Pervez Musharraf to death in absentia for high treason. The former leader and general at the head of Pakistan 1999 and 2008 had been tried by a special anti-terrorist court. This Monday, January 13, the Pakistani justice decided to annul this decision, judging it unconstitutional.

With our correspondent in Kabul, Sonia Ghezali

" The full judgment has been set aside, " said one of Pervez Musharraf's lawyers in exile in Dubai since 2016, officially on medical grounds.

The whole process that led to the death sentence for the former Pakistani head of state last month is called into question. From the filing of a complaint until the creation of the special court responsible for judging it.

The conviction of Pervez Musharraf to death by a special high treason tribunal for repealing the Constitution and establishing the state of emergency in 2007 had created general surprise in Pakistan.

Never before has a soldier been tried for this reason. The almost all - powerful army in the country had expressed its agitation and had questioned the validity of the judicial procedure.

The cancellation of the ex-general's death sentence does not mean the end of his troubles with the Pakistani justice system. He remains charged in several other cases.
