The Promenade des Anglais, its "palaces", its palm trees ... The city of Nice has an original heritage built over two and a half centuries of tourist activity.

Constituted from 1760 to the present day, the urban complex of almost 600 hectares is at the center of the candidacy of "Nice, capital of tourism of the Riviera" for inscription on the list of World Heritage by Unesco. Hired in 2012, the latter has just been retained by the French government.

Decision expected from 2021

“Tourism, a major phenomenon in the contemporary world and whose excesses are sometimes deplored, has also been conducive to the creation of an original heritage, carrying exceptional universal value. Nice bears witness to this, ”said Mayor Christian Estrosi, in a press release.

The World Heritage Committee may, from 2021, during its plenary session, decide on this candidacy, after being examined by the experts of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
