Of the 176 people killed in the shooting last Wednesday, 17 were residents of Sweden. Prime Minister Stefan Löfven has already condemned the shooting down of civilians. On Sunday, he called Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to make this statement.

According to the press release, Löfven believes that Iran's recognition lays a good foundation for the investigation to be carried out in a comprehensive and transparent manner and that it will provide clarity in all the details of the launching of the plane. He also demands that the experts who want to send Sweden and other countries concerned should be given full transparency in the investigation.

Black box reveal

Earlier today, the Haveri Commission has also made a request that Sweden's representatives be allowed to attend Kiev in Ukraine, when the details of the planet's tachograph, the so-called black boxes, will be revealed.

In normal cases, the information from the black box is crucial to find out why a plane has crashed, but since in this case it is already known that it is mainly for other reasons that Sweden wants to be involved.

"The great value I see and why we put in the request to participate is to meet with the other countries concerned and especially the Iranian investigative leader and his investigative group," says Peter Swaffer, head of aviation at the Haveri Commission and Sweden's representative in this investigation.

"See us as a resource"

According to him, Sweden has no formal right to attend this meeting, but he is optimistic that the Haveri Commission's request should be approved.

- They haven't said yes yet, but they have involved all the states concerned and informed of their intentions to take the tachograph to Kiev and I interpret it favorably. I hope they see us as a resource, says Peter Swaffer.

The download of the data from the tachograph is planned to take place on January 17, if it can be done in Kiev, and the meeting that Sweden asked to be invited will then take place on January 20.
