January 09, 2020 Ukrainian Boeing 737 crashed yesterday after taking off from Tehran resulting in the death of 176 people "was originally heading west out of the airport area", but then "veered right after a problem occurred and the pilots had started a maneuver to go back to the moment of the crash ". The Iranian civil aviation reported on its website.

"The plane, which initially headed east to leave the airport area, turned right due to a problem and was returning to the airport at the time of the accident," he said yesterday night on his site of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proclaimed a day of national mourning.

The numbers and nationalities of the victims
According to the provisional budget on board there were 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians, 10 Swedes, four Afghans, three Germans and three Britons: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, quoted by the Interax agency, wrote on Twitter. According to the Kiev Security Council, of the 11 Ukrainians who died, nine were crew members. Canadian service sources say the plane would not have been shot down by a missile. The hypothesis is that of a technical failure.

The chronicle of the disaster
The disaster occurred shortly after the launch of a shower of Iranian missiles on two Iraqi bases hosting American troops and it is not yet clear whether there are links to the ongoing crisis.

The plane crashed shortly after taking off from Imam Khomeini international airport "for technical problems", the spokesman of the airport authority told the Iranian agency Fars. The Irna news agency cites Qassem Biniaz, an official at the Iranian Ministry of Road Infrastructure, who said the aircraft crashed in an engine fire.

Flight data show that the Boeing 737-800 reached an altitude of 7,925 feet, about 2.4 km, and then suddenly disappeared, about 3 minutes and 42 seconds after taking off from Tehran, having traveled about ten kilometers way.

The photos published by the Irna state agency then showed pictures of the crashed vehicle, at dawn local time, in an agricultural field.

Serious plane crashes
The tragedy precedes by a few days the formal establishment, under the leadership of Boeing, of the new CEO, David Calhoun, who has replaced Dennis Muilenburg, who was chased out after a disastrous year for Boeing. The American aviation giant in the last few months has suffered two very serious plane crashes of the 737 Max, in which 346 people died. Since then the Max have been grounded all over the world but the company still has not managed to bring them back into the air.
