Weinstein is accused of "raping a woman and abusing another on various occasions during a two-day period in 2013," said Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey, according to the US Variety magazine.

The prosecution itself concerns a case of rape and three other sex crimes. Lacey is expected to comment further on the charges at a press conference, along with Police Chief Michel Moore.

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office must have investigated a total of eight cases linked to Weinstein, some of which should have been filed up to two years ago. Lacey formed a special investigation group for sex crimes linked to Hollywood 2017, after several accusations in the wake of the MeToo movement. Until now, none of the notifications have led to prosecution, according to Variety mostly because the limitation period has expired.
