Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on the night of January 7. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill held a festive liturgy in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The service was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his wife Svetlana. Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrated Christmas at the Transfiguration Cathedral in St. Petersburg and handed over the Mother of God “Tikhvinskaya” icon to his abbot.
