A first IT malfunction hit the network at Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge on Thursday morning, which caused the hospital to go into staff position. This means that a special health management team stays informed of the situation and takes the necessary measures.

At the same time, a major IT problem was affecting the medical record system Take Care, which is used by all emergency hospitals, except S: t Görans, and many health centers.

- It is a general toughness in the system of records. There are routines for this so the business works but it gets tough. It takes time, said Erik Berglund, press officer at the Stockholm region.

Lasted for hours

At 16, however, IT systems were up and running again, with some lag in some places according to Berglund. At 18, Karolinska in Huddinge also claimed his staff position.

During the hours of the disturbances, ambulance transport was redirected from Huddinge to the hospital in Solna. About ten planned emergency surgeries were also moved, says Bo Albertsson, press officer at Karolinska University Hospital. At the same time, patient waiting times were longer than usual in the emergency room.

Hospitals used reserve routines, including some manual measures.

- Patient safety has been maintained and it has worked well, claims Bo Albertsson.

Occurred at the same time

Region Stockholm's Special Healthcare Management (RSSL) gathered to monitor the development and has continued preparedness during Thursday evening.

What caused the IT disruption is unclear, but according to Karolinska, the network interruption seems to be a hardware problem. The problem with Take Care arose at the same time.

- It has not been in connection with any update so we do not really know what has happened, says Erik Berglund.
