The new Algerian government has 39 members, including 5 women. Several ministers were already part of the previous team. Its composition was announced Thursday evening on national television, two weeks after the inauguration of the new president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, still disputed by part of the Algerians.

It was the spokesperson for the presidency who took part in the exercise. A first, since the composition of the government was previously announced by an official press release.

On the other hand, fewer innovations among the holders of the main portfolios; many already held positions in the previous government. No change in Foreign Affairs, a portfolio that Sabri Boukadoum keeps after having briefly served as Prime Minister.

The Interior will be occupied by the former Minister of Housing, Kamel Beldjoud, who assured the interim since the dismissal of his predecessor by the new president. Continuity also in Justice, for Belkacem Zeghmati and in Energy for Mohamed Arkab. The Finance portfolio goes to Abderrahmane Raouya who previously held this position between 2017 and 2019, under the chairmanship of Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Four other ministers are appointed to positions they previously held under the former presidency. Finally, no Minister of Defense, since the Algerian president traditionally occupies this function.

The post of Deputy Minister of Defense, occupied by General Ahmed Gaid Salah from 2013 to his death last week, is no longer in this government.
