During Christmas, the Swedes go to the cinema more than at any other time during the year. Over one million visits are expected to be made at cinemas around the country.

But so far things have been bad for Swedish film in 2019.

During the first nine months of the year, fewer than one in ten cinema visitors chose to watch a Swedish film.

- We think it's very boring. We like Swedish film a lot and want it to be successful, ”says Helena Eklund, Marketing Manager at Filmstaden.

Hope for ticket success

During Christmas, people are free and this can be seen in the movie theaters. Therefore, the industry chooses to premiere of supposed ticket successes right then.

This year, the trump card is the musical "A Part of My Heart" based on Tomas Ledin's music, as well as the new film about Sune.

- We hope that the trend of Swedish film will reverse with these films, says Helena Eklund.

Swedish low budget

Anna Söreskog is one of many cinema visitors during the middle days. She chose to see the movie Frost 2 in Örebro.

- Unfortunately, I think the general perception may be that Swedish film is a bit low-budget and that foreign is better, she says.

Unexpected musical artists

Örebroder Ewa Thorén, on the other hand, chose Swedish film. She watched the musical film "A Part of My Heart" with her husband.

- Musicals I think is fun. Seeing actors that you can't imagine singing and dancing doing just that is extra fun, she says.
