The Brazilian government denies any involvement in the attack on a military base in southern Venezuela . Caracas said deserters launched an assault on Sunday at the Luepa base, near the border between the two countries. Before this attack, they would have benefited from logistical support on the Brazilian side of the border. And in particular have been housed for 15 days in a hotel in Pacaraima.

Venezuelan Minister of Communication Jorge Rodriguez accuses a gold trafficker of having financed the operation intended to steal weapons. Previously, Caracas had implicated Colombia , where paramilitary camps would be installed, with " the underhand collaboration of the government of Jair Bolsonaro ", affirms the minister.

The tension remains high. Brazil is one of 50 countries that has recognized the legitimacy of self-proclaimed president Juan Guaido. Nicolas Maduro's regime still enjoys the support of great powers, such as Russia and China.
