An extensive repair of damage caused precisely by the salt on the bike lanes can cost up to 2000 SEK. And bicycle dealer Tommy Skagert thinks the salt makes the parts wear out faster.

-We see a constant increase in the need to replace more parts on the bikes. They rust much more. Normally you can drive for two or three years, but with the salt the parts end on a winter instead.

Even the gravel on the bike lanes sets it up for the cyclists, when the small sharp stones get stuck in the tires and eat themselves inward.

- The gravel is an excellent recipe for puncture. It may be the same customers who come in week after week due to puncture.

Winter tires are recommended

What should you as a cyclist do then?

- There are better and worse tires. Many people choose to convert to winter tires that are more puncture-proof.

No salt and no gravel, will cyclists ever be satisfied?

- No I do not think so. But it is probably in human nature to strive in some direction. But most people who commute are probably quite satisfied anyway, says Tommy Skagert.
