UN Special Rapporteur Anees Kalamar said that the American report on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, whom Congress passed a law this week, should be based on the conclusions of the intelligence services, especially the CIA.

The Middle East Eye website quoted Kalamar as saying that the US report should refer to senior Saudi officials involved in the assassination.

Kalamar added that the US report should reveal who ordered the assassination, the people who knew it and did not prevent him, and those responsible for providing the appropriate conditions for the crime.

Kalamar stressed that if Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is implicated in the assassination, his properties should be confiscated in the United States and directed to fund a fund to compensate the victims of the assassinations.

Assassination crime
Khashoggi’s murder took place inside his country’s consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018.

And Riyadh announced - after 18 days of denial and the provision of conflicting explanations for the accident - Khashoggi was killed after a fight with Saudi people, and the arrest of 18 citizens as part of the investigations, without revealing the location of the body.

The UN rapporteur released last July a 101-page report, in which the Saudi state held the responsibility for intentionally killing Khashoggi.

Kalamar then confirmed reliable evidence to investigate senior Saudi officials, including Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Several human rights organizations have criticized the Secretary-General for not using his powers as provided for by the United Nations Charter, to order the formation of an international commission of inquiry into the killing of the Saudi journalist.
