19 December 2019The fate of the blast furnace 2 of Taranto will be decided before 2020. While contacts at various levels continue between the government and Arcelor Mittal, the official status of the cards has arrived: the hearing will be held before the Court on the morning of 30 December of the Taranto Review to discuss the appeal presented by Ilva in extraordinary administration on the Afo2.

On December 10th the Judge of the Court of Taranto Francesco Maccagnano had rejected the request for extension presented by the commissioners with respect to the deadline of 13. Despite the favorable opinion expressed by the Prosecutor, the judge from Puglia had justified the decision by explaining that a new extension would have affected the worker safety. Precisely as a result of this order, the company had announced the extraordinary layoff for 3500 workers, triggering a new take-off of trade union shields, which close every redundancy for the steel mills.

The temporal question is decisive in the dossier: for a definitive stop at the blast furnace it must be estimated at least 3-4 weeks, while the hearing on the precautionary and urgent appeal presented by the Administration remains fixed to tomorrow, December 20 at the Court of Milan extraordinary against the withdrawal signed by the company on 4 November last. According to what he learns, the lawyers of the commissioners would be willing to request a mini-referral, linking the course of the appeal to the decision on the operation of the blast furnace in Taranto. In the hearing of tomorrow, the Lombard Public Prosecutor's Office, which is a party, will ask to be authorized by the judge to be able to reply to the memory of the Frankish Indian group in which, among other things, the removal of the prosecutors is requested. The prosecutor will essentially ask, like the commissioners of the former Ilva, for a postponement of the proceedings to file his replies.

Priority file in the executive
Leaving the judicial front, on the political front at the moment no new official meetings between the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the Mittal are confirmed, but the dossier is obviously absolutely priority in the executive. "The problem that had Mittal was not that of the shield, but an industrial problem, of the non-contingent impossibility of respecting the plan - explained the Minister of Economic Development Stefano Patuanelli today - The non-compliance is not of the State, but of the entrepreneur who did the calculations wrong. We try to tackle the problem by also giving a perspective to the territory, extra Ilva ". The reference is directly to the draft of the Dl Taranto, which provides for a solidarity fund of 50 million for the protection of workers and up to 100% relief for companies that would take on 'redundancies' in 2020 and 2021.

USB: "ArcelorMittal layoffs are being prepared with Dl Taranto"
"The only important thing that emerges from the Taranto law decree is that all the best favorable conditions on social safety nets are extended to the employees of ArcelorMittal, to those who have a job today. The government is closing a shameful agreement with the multinational for allow her to lay off thousands of workers. This means that the cig workers in Ilva As, now protected by the union agreement that guarantees their employment in Arcelor Mittal, will remain unemployed ". The Usb denounces it, signaling that "there is no trace of the large investments to convert the factory and the territory. Nothing for the workers of the contract. Scarce resources and ridiculous numbers of new jobs", adds the base union announcing maximum mobilization.
