December 18, 2019With the House's vote on impeachment, Donald Trump would be the third American president of history tried by Congress and the fourth to end up under investigation.

These are the precedents. Andrew Johnson : indicted on 22 February 1868 on charges of attempting to remove the Minister of War without passing through the Congress. On 26 May 1868 he was acquitted by the Senate.

Bill Clinton : indicted on 8 October 1998 for lying about his relationship with an intern, Monica Lewinsky, and obstructing the investigation. On 12 February 1999 he was acquitted by the Senate.

Richard Nixon : accused of abuse of power for spying on the electoral committee of
Democrats and having lied, he was indicted on 6 February 1974 by the Justice commission which approved three articles of impeachment. The president resigned before being formally charged with a House vote.
