December 18, 2019 "We are confident that we will have an orderly Brexit and that we will have a free trade agreement by December 2020 with mutual satisfaction, both for the UK and for the European Union". Thus stated the President of the Council, Giuseppe Conte, at the end of the meeting at Palazzo Chigi with the Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic. Croatia will assume the Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2020.

"A European model that structurally governs migration flows, which is based on a European return management", is what the Prime Minister says, in the declarations at the end of the meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, speaking of the upcoming challenges of the EU, on which there is "convergent views" between the two countries.

On the EU Budget "we do not want a compromise on the downside" but a budget with which "to support the political ambition that Europe and its institutions are expressing in the launch of this new legislature", said Conte.
