The buildings have now burned to the ground and on Sunday morning the rescue service awaited police clearances to go in and extinguish the last minor fires.
The police classify the incident as dangerous carelessness. The fire should have started during the work on cars, when it should have sparked, according to police.
The extinguishing work continuesDuring the night until Sunday, after work was underway and the site was guarded to prevent the risk of spreading.
- There are two men on site and one altitude vehicle. We will continue to lift up roofing sheets to access where it smokes. The fire is extinguished but there are so-called "pots" left in some places, says Conny Eriksson, internal commander at the rescue service in Halmstad.
On Sunday morning, there is still some smoke from the site and there is a smell of fire in the area around Stationsgatan.
- Much is water vapor and smoke that still glows. It will smell fire for a good while today, but it is not dangerous for the public, says Conny Eriksson.
