In the vaults, gaping holes allow the raindrops to pass inside the cathedral. Unpublished images, filmed by journalists from France 2, show the interior of Notre-Dame de Paris, partially destroyed by fire in April. Eight months after this spectacular accident, the work in progress is still closed to the public.

Consolidation work on this emblematic monument continues and the huge scaffolding, installed for restoration work before the fire, is still in danger of collapsing. Today it constitutes the main threat hanging over the site.

Securing works made it possible to reinforce this scaffolding by almost 300 tonnes, before dismantling which should start in January.

"We cannot say that Notre-Dame is saved"

Another source of concern is that there is a lot of wood and metal rubble on the vaults.

"We don't know what will happen when we have removed the charcoal, the pieces of framework, the various metallic elements [accumulated above the vaults] ... So today we cannot say that Our- Dame is saved ", says the chief architect of the restoration of Notre-Dame, Philippe Villeneuve, who scrutinizes this part of the cathedral with attention.

On the financial side, nearly 50 million euros have already been committed to this project, the completion of which is expected within five years.
