The victim was stabbed during a brawl after a party, according to local authorities. The body of 28-year-old Dorivan Guajajara was found in the town of Amarante do Maranhao, about 700 km from Sao Luis, the state capital. Investigators immediately dismissed the thesis of a crime related to deforestation or a settling of accounts with the natives.

A complaint against Bolsonaro

However, one of the leaders of this community denounced this " brutal crime against the Guajajara people ". At the beginning of last month, a young chief of this tribe was assassinated after falling into an ambush.

Paulo Guajajara was part of a self-defense group called “ the guardians of the forest ”. While pressure from whites is increasing, two other natives were, in turn, murdered in the same region last weekend.

The Minister of Justice dispatched the National Security Force to try to control the situation, but a group of lawyers for human rights did not hesitate to file a complaint against President Bolsonaro before the Tribunal international criminal law for " incitement to genocide against the natives and crime against humanity ".
