The Center stated in a report presented on the sidelines of the activities of the second session of the World Tolerance Summit, which was recently held in Dubai, that the importance of tolerance at the present time has emerged to increase the pace of interaction between human civilizations, due to the technical and knowledge progress that transformed the world into a small village.
He added that tolerance has a positive impact on various aspects of life, which is the value of achieving peace and social balance, and preserving public and private interests of Saudi society.
He pointed out that the term tolerance is one of the scientific concepts that have been interpreted by many definitions, which differed in its presentation, and agreed in its content, that tolerance is a positive value that expresses full respect for diversity, cultural, social, religious, and ethnic diversity, and recognition of the right of everyone to enjoy their rights and fundamental freedoms Universally recognized.
He added that, according to international literature and experiences, the procedural definition of the tolerance index can be determined as respecting the difference with others, their acceptance, whether it is social, cultural, economic, political or religious, and recognition of their right to express their views, and understanding their positions, in order to achieve harmony between members of society, pointing to Until the dimensions of this indicator are represented in the socio-cultural, economic, political, and religious dimensions.
The King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue said that, because he was aware of the importance of the value of tolerance in society, he worked on building a "tolerance index", to express the truth about the value of tolerance in Saudi society, and to support the principles of moderation, which allow to increase intellectual, cultural, social, and sectarian horizons in society .
He stated that the aim of the index is to describe the reality of tolerance in Saudi society, by building a scientific methodological tool with high reliability, and to provide enhanced information for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s vision programs related to the value of tolerance, aimed at building a vibrant society, explaining that the steps to build the tolerance index were designed and controlled systematically and in the field , Starting with reviewing the previous literature, scientific studies, and experiments that dealt with tolerance in general or sub, then using it to enrich the theoretical framework of the index, and to determine the dimensions and areas of it, build its expressions, and present it to experts and arbitrators.
