Marshal Khalifa Haftar, a strong man from eastern Libya, announced on Thursday (December 12th) that he had ordered his men to launch the "final battle" for control of Tripoli. A statement made by the head of the Libyan National Army (ANL) in a speech broadcast by the television channel Al Arabiya.

Marshal Haftar's forces have often made the announcement of breakthroughs or decisive military actions that have finally been followed by few concrete changes on the battlefield. Last April, the ANL launched an offensive against the regime of Tripoli, recognized by the international community, which was arrested on its periphery by forces loyal to the government of national unity.
