Yesterday, at dawn, a gunman shot and killed protesters in Al-Wathba Square in central Baghdad, while four protesters were killed, while police and eyewitnesses reported that angry protesters attacked and killed the gunman, then mutilated his body and hung it on a road sign.

In detail, eyewitnesses said that an armed civilian named Haitham Ali Ismail (17 years old), was fired yesterday morning, from a Kalashnikov rifle, aimed at demonstrators in Al Wathba Square, and killed four of them.

The witnesses indicated that a number of demonstrators chased the perpetrator in the alleys of Al Wathba Square, and he was caught and killed, and his body was suspended on an electricity pole in the square.

The police reported that angry demonstrators attacked and killed the gunman, then mutilated his body and hung him on a traffic pillar in central Baghdad.

According to police sources, a fight broke out between a 17-year-old youth and a number of demonstrators near Al Wathba Square, near Liberation Square, the center of the protests.

Footage was broadcast live on social networks, where security forces personnel appeared near the place, which appeared to be the young man's house.

The video footage showed a large number of protesters kicking and stabbing him, after which the young man wearing short pants was lifted, after he was tied to his feet and hung upside down on the traffic sign in the middle of Al Wathba Square.

His body was subsequently transferred to forensic medicine, witnesses told AFP.

A statement issued by the protestors in Tahrir Square condemned the incident. "We proclaim our innocence, we peaceful protesters, of what happened," they said.

They considered in the statement that what happened was a "malicious scheme to distort the image of peaceful demonstrators."

On the other hand, the Iraqi authorities announced the fall of two missiles near a military base sheltering American soldiers in the vicinity of Baghdad International Airport, on Wednesday night, without casualties, in the tenth of its kind in a month and a half month.

And the official security media cell confirmed in a brief statement, "Two Katyusha rockets landed in the outer perimeter of Baghdad International Airport in an uninhabited area, without significant losses."
