A 12-year-old college girl was arrested in Florida this weekend for allegedly threatening the Snapchat network to kill students at her school, police said.

The girl, who has not been identified, posted a message Friday on this popular social network of adolescents before being placed in custody Saturday night and transferred to a juvenile center, according to the office of the Broward County Sheriff.

"The threat included a list of people to shoot down with the name of Falcon Cove College students", located in Weston, said in a statement the local authorities.

"Another threat was posted on the social network later Friday afternoon, which indicated that the students were not safe and would be killed on Monday, December 9," the police statement said.

North of Miami, Weston is only a few miles from Parkland, where a gunman shot 17 people in his old high school on Valentine's Day 2018.

According to the authorities, the girl's post was reported by another student and one of her parents.

The schoolgirl admitted to writing this message, according to the sheriff's office.

"She faces two counts, a written threat to kill and a false statement about a firearm," the statement said.
