Turkish Defense Ministry appreciates the possibility of purchasing Russian fighters

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said it’s too early to talk about Ankara’s purchase of Russian fighters. According to him, the Turkish side is striving in this area for cooperation with the United States.

“At this stage, it is too early to say whether we will purchase Russian fighters. We must wait and see how events develop. Turkey is an independent state, and it will do what it sees fit. If the US refuses to fulfill its obligations for the supply of F-35, we can find other suppliers, ”RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Akar also said that a large number of aircraft are being produced in the world and Turkey is able to find an alternative, but Ankara hopes to cooperate with Washington on this issue.

Earlier, the head of the secretariat of the defense industry under the administration of the President of Turkey, Ismail Demir, said that the Turkish side was studying Russia's proposal for the purchase of Russian Su-35 fighters.

In August, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not rule out that Turkey would purchase Russian Su-35 and Su-57 fighters.
