The American Film Institute presents its awards for American films throughout the year, and annually publishes a list of the top 10 films and TV series, which this year included many distinguished works.

The jury, which consists of a group of critics, academics and filmmakers, celebrates the best of film and television in the United States of America, so the outcome of this year varies greatly between leading and veteran directors such as Clint Estud, Sam Mendes, Martin Scorsese, Noah Bambach, Quentin Tarantino, and among new directors arriving for the first time such as Todd Phillips, Taika Whitetti and Ryan Johnson.

1917

"1917" by American director Sam Mendes, who directed the famous movie "American Beauty". The events of World War I revolve around the journey of two soldiers to the heart of the enemy lines to deliver a message that is supposed to save 1,600 soldiers - including the brother of one of the soldiers - from falling into a trap that might kill them all.

Goodbye

The movie "Farewell" revolves around a Chinese family discovering that the grandmother has not much in life, so they decide to hide the news from her and organize a wedding that brings the family with the grandmother for the last time. The film is produced by a joint Chinese-American production, directed by Chinese Lulu Wang. The film participated in the official competition of the Sundance Festival, and was nominated for a grand jury prize.

Irish

"Irish" by major American director Martin Scorsese, which began airing late November on Netflix. It is one of the most awaited films this year, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Peche. It revolves around the story of Frank Sheeran, a senior official of the American Truckers Association, who is suspected of being involved in the murder of Jimmy Hoffa, the former president of the union. The film is excerpted from "I Heared You Paint Houses", which documents a late admission by Sheeran of the killing of Hoffa.

Jojo bunny

"JoJo the Bunny" is a new remedy for the character of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in a comic framework. The film revolves around a young German child named Jojo who joins the "Hitler Army" and finds that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. The film is directed by New Zealander, Oscar nominee Taika Waititi. The film won the People's Choice Award from the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Joker

The long-awaited movie "Joker", which introduces the background story of the famous comics character "Joker". A dramatic film that differs greatly from the type of superhero films, in which the American actor Joaquin Phoenix presented an amazing performance that transcended the dilemma of the late actor Heath Ledger.

The film was a big surprise after winning the Golden Lion, which is the grand prize at the Venice Festival. The film is directed by American Todd Phillips.

Knives Out

After the famous crime writer Harlan Thrombi is found murdered on his private farm after his 85th birthday, detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) is assigned to investigate the mysterious circumstances of this crime. Between the dysfunctional Harlan family and his loyal employees, Planck tries to demystify the crime amid many lies and attempts to hide the murderer.

little Women

"Little Women" is the third American director of Oscar nominee, Greta Gerwig. The movie starring Oscar-nominated Irish actress Sircha Ronan, British Emma Watson, and American Oscar nominee Timothy Shalamit. It revolves around the story of four sisters living in America after the Civil War.

Marriage story

The movie "A Story of Marriage" by American director Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach provides insight and emotional insight into the story of the breakup of marriage and the family whose members reside together. The film starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. The film participated in the Toronto International Film Festival, and was nominated for the People's Choice Award. He also competed for the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Festival.


One day it happened in Hollywood

"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" by famous American director Quentin Tarantino. The film revolves around the story of the TV actor Za’el Al-Majd who is fighting to preserve his fame at the end of the sixties that marked the end of the golden age of Hollywood, and lives next to the famous actress Sharon Tate who was a victim of a famous murder at that time. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. The film participated in the official competition of the French Festival de Cannes, and was nominated for the Golden Frond Award.

Richard Gul

"Richard Gole" by veteran American director Clint Eastwood, is about American security guard Richard Gole who saved thousands of lives from a bomb explosion in the 1996 Olympics, but the press distorts his image by claiming to be a terrorist. The film is starring Paul Walter Hauser and Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell.
