The man, who is 50 years old, was sentenced last year to ten months in prison for gross violation of women's rights by Nyköping District Court. The judgment was appealed to the High Court which upheld the district court's judgment.

"Inappropriate to practice"

The Inspection for Care and Care Report states that the man "committed a serious crime which is liable to affect his confidence" and that he "also proved manifestly unfit to practice the profession as a physiotherapist".

According to the report, the man himself believes that he "always did his job as a physiotherapist blamelessly" and that the relationship with the vulnerable woman has nothing to do with his credentials.

Incompatible with work

But the Health Care Responsibility Board considers that the crime for which the man has been convicted is "apt to affect his trust" and considers that "repeated and escalating violence is incompatible with the role of legitimate health care professionals". The man's identification as a physiotherapist should therefore be revoked.
