At 34, Sanna Marin becomes the youngest head of government in Finnish history.

Sanna Marin, originally from Tampere, an industrial city in southwestern Finland, has had a rapid rise in politics. At just 27, she had presided over the city council of her hometown.

The woman who later became Minister of Transport narrowly defeated former Prime Minister Antti Rinne on Sunday. The latter had to resign last week, criticized for his mismanagement of the postal strike, while the Finnish state supported a plan to lower wages.

Already a first test ...

Sanna Marin takes the reins of the country in a tense social climate. It will take an oath on Tuesday before the Finnish parliamentarians, while at the same time, a three-day strike threatens to paralyze the country.

Many economic sectors will be mobilized, in chemistry, wood and oil. They demand a revaluation of wages. The Social Democratic Party from which Sanna Marin came has promised to end the austerity of previous governments. This will be a first test for the young Prime Minister who wants to prove that her young age will not be an obstacle.
