Throughout France, the association "Les Frigos solidaires" offers merchants and restaurateurs to install free-standing refrigerators in front of their shops. They can be filled by everyone to help the poor. An anti-waste food idea that already has 43 participating traders.

The association "Les Frigos solidaires" celebrates its two years. An initiative sponsored by Identities Mutual, and by the actor Baptiste Lorber, which allows restaurateurs or merchants to install in front of their shops a refrigerator in free access. Thus, everyone can deposit foodstuffs to help the poor. An idea that also helps fight against food waste. The initiative comes from Dounia Mebtoul, Parisian head of a restaurant in the 18th district of Paris. She discovered the concept in London.

Anyone can put food in the fridge, but not just any food. For individuals: fruits, vegetables, bread, ham, yogurt ... As long as the consumption dates are not exceeded. Products already started, alcohol, meat and fish are to be avoided. We must also be careful not to break the cold chain. As for restaurateurs or merchants who have a "solidarity fridge", they can feed it with their cooked dishes or their unsold.

43 fridges in France

Frigos solidaires are everywhere in France. We can count 43 of them: in Montpellier, Arras, Clermont-Ferrand, Lyon, Bordeaux even in L'Ile-Rousse. The last one has just opened in Agen. There is still a lack for a more complete mesh, on the Côte d'Azur or in the Center region for example. The initiative also seeks to develop in large cities. In Paris, there are only seven, not even one per district. The association is always looking for solidarity merchants. A large pot is also available on the website to help finance new fridges.
