Some women experience postpartum sadness rather than happiness in what is known as postpartum depression. What is it, what causes it and how it can be confronted?

To answer these questions, German gynecologist Christian Albring explained that estrogen production suddenly drops in the body after birth, which leads to a feeling of sadness, depression, nervousness, speed of arousal and unwillingness to talk about childbirth.

Postpartum depression has several causes, he said, as it could be due to the difficult or fears of giving birth.

He stressed that postpartum depression should not be underestimated as it could adversely affect breastfeeding, the mother's relationship with her baby, and future family planning.

Therefore, according to Albring, the husband should provide his wife with psychological support and consult a psychiatrist to treat depression.
