It was near the intersection of Kungsgatan / Östra Torggatan that Karlstad Municipality dug to replace a water pipe when archaeologist Ellinor Larsson from Värmland's Museum found clear remains of a 16th-century farm. The plumber Richard Wenberg, who participated in the work, is also an artist and was eager to shape the area as it once may have looked. He offered to make a sketch but in the end it became a large and detailed painting.

- It is credible based on all the excavations we have done together in the area, says Ellinor Larsson.

In the 17th century Karlstad there were about 150 households, many were crowded with 10-15 people per home. The center was then down by the Klarälven river and the cathedral where the Stadshotellet is today, says Elinor Larsson.

The painting will be purchased by the Technology and Real Estate Department, which is also Richard Wennberg's employer, and the idea is that it will be displayed publicly.
