Relatives of the opponent Juan Guaido, recognized as interim president by some fifty countries, are suspected of being corrupted by a rich Colombian entrepreneur close to the government of Nicolas Maduro. A new scandal that divides the opposition of Juan Guaido and weakens it a little more.

From our correspondent in Caracas , Benjamin Delille

According to the Armando.info investigation site , nine MPs close to Juan Guiado tried to use their influence in Colombia and the United States to defend a Colombian businessman accused of money laundering.

The most embarrassing is that this entrepreneur, Carlos Lizcano, is linked to the Clap program, a program of the government of Nicolas Maduro to provide subsidized food to the most needy.

With two other Colombian entrepreneurs, Carlos Lizcano allegedly overcharged imports of food for this program. The American justice, which punished the three acolytes, accuses them of having then laundered the overcharged money.

Venezuelans no longer believe in opposition

This is where the opposition members come in: they would have asked American justice to be " indulgent ".

This scandal is a stain for the opposition, which continues to denounce " the corruption " of the government of Nicolas Maduro. Chief Juan Guiado announced the opening of a parliamentary commission of inquiry. " I will not allow corruption to jeopardize years of work and sacrifice by parliamentarians and citizens committed to change and struggle, " he says.

Only, the harm is done. After months of unsuccessful protests, Venezuelans no longer believe in the opposition led by Juan Guiado and this scandal should not help reconcile them.
