Arrested and then held in gendarmerie premises, 16 senior officials prosecuted for corruption, misappropriation of public funds and money laundering were heard at length during a hearing held without interruption from Wednesday 17h to Thursday 16h.

All appeared before the Special Court of Justice. According to a provisional record of these hearings, out of 16 persons heard , 8 were placed under arrest warrant and 8 others were released on bail.

The public prosecutor, André Patrick Roponat, did not disclose the list of people placed in pretrial detention at Libreville Central Prison also known as "Gros Bouquet" or "Without family".

According to lawyers, no leading figures presented to the Special Court of Justice escaped prison. Christian Patrichi Tanasa, former CEO of the National Oil Company currently political advisor to President Ali Bongo is in prison. Ditto for Renaud Allogho Akoué, former CEO of the National Fund for Health Insurance and Social Security.

The former CEO of the Equatorial Mining Company, Ismael Ondias Souna is also in prison as well as Herman Nzoundou Bignoumba who managed the Deposit and Consignment Fund. The other persons placed under arrest warrant are deputy directors-general of public or parastatal companies that brew billions of CFA francs.

On this list, an absentee, the spokesman of the presidency of the Republic, arrested a dozen days ago with his secretary. In a statement, his lawyer claimed that Ike Ngouoni was not heard by the prosecutor. Nor is it placed under a deposit warrant. It is unknown to date where he is.
