• Politics Pablo Iglesias and Irene Montero, the richest in Podemos
  • 10-N. Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias reach a government agreement with the leader of Podemos as vice president

The construction of a political party implies not only the development of institutional work, but also providing the formation of an infrastructure, logistics and equipment that allow evolution, the achievement of expectations and growth. On a day-to-day basis, the formations have a workforce that cover the needs in different areas: administration, press, events, security ... And, sometimes, conflicts, problems arise. This week it has been known that a private escort of Irene Montero has filed a complaint against the party for entrusting tasks that were outside her competition, such as buying food for the dog or acting as a driver for others.

This case, in which the borders of the professional work to be performed by the contracted person are crossed, as detailed in the complaint, reflects a problem that concerns Podemos: «the correct definition of jobs and their category». This is recognized by the purple training in an internal report corresponding to the year 2018 -the last one that has been prepared-.

«We must point out that, although in 2018 we were able to lay the foundations for this new way of defining jobs, we have to assume that we have not reached the optimum point at which all cases accept it. The total implementation is the challenge for 2019 and to ensure that all links to the organization are defined correctly ”, is the guideline included in the report that takes stock of the internal management of Podemos and that, in addition, points out the deficits to be corrected in the future.

The former escort denounces, as published by OKdiario , "discriminatory" labor treatment because it states that, "recurrently" - and out of his schedule - he was urged to act as a family bed, bring and bring people to his residence in Galapagar or mechanics. Also, ask for compensation for unpaid overtime.

From Podemos they argued that the person in question was not hired as an escort but was in the role of "companion of a party position" and that she was fired for reasons of "cost reduction" within a plan to reorganize jobs after bad results of the April general elections.

Far from going out, the case is still alive. The Spanish Association of Escorts and Security Professionals has filed a complaint with the Central Private Security Unit (UCSP) of the National Police Corps and, as they explain, they plan to do so before the Prosecutor's Office , which is why they consider a “case of intrusion professional escort of the deputy Irene Montero ».

In the opinion of this association, «the direct contracting of this type of service seriously violates the Private Security Law 5/2014 », which prohibits the hiring of persons not authorized by the Ministry of Interior for these functions.

Sources of the workers consulted by this newspaper explain that it is not the only conflictive case that has occurred in the party and that there are, depending on its version, situations in which employees are being urged to accept leaving their job without compensation and without suing the party, with "false promises of reinstatement or with the threat of disciplinary dismissals without compensation."

At the end of 2018, Podemos, according to its internal data, had a total of 292 workers, of which 133 had an indefinite contract and 159 with a temporary contract. Regarding the 2017 closing data, there was an increase in temporary hiring in its workforce: 143 undefined and 101 temporary. An increase of 58 people.

Negotiation with the PSOE

This controversy, in any case, has shaken the party in full negotiation with the PSOE to shape the coalition government that Pedro Sánchez and Pablo Iglesias have agreed. In recent days, the dialogue, which takes place in a context of maximum bunkerization, with the mandate to avoid leaks, has focused on the distribution of competencies between the ministries. That is, a tug of war to determine, for example, if a housing department is created that satisfies the demands of Podemos -regulation of the rental market, evictions ...- or not; or if the separation of the Social Security of Work , as the PSOE intends, has the approval of the formation of Churches. Precisely Work and Equality are two portfolios that are taken for granted in Podemos, which has ruled out assuming Health , since its powers are largely transferred. Depending on how the competence distribution is, the purple formation could assume, in addition to the social vice presidency of Iglesias, between three or four ministries.
