Twitter, which has been trying for years to stem the spread of hate speech on its network, said Thursday that users around the world could now "hide" some unwanted responses to their own tweets.

"Everyone should feel safe and comfortable talking on Twitter," says Suzanne Xie, product manager for a blog post. "To do this, we need to change the way conversations are conducted on our platform."

Users who respond to tweets can change the original subject or the tone of a discussion. Users lose control of the conversation they have started.

"We've tested an option to hide the responses to your tweets and found that this feature is a new and useful way to manage your conversations, so today we're making it available to everyone around the world," he says. explains Twitter.

According to this feature, anyone can choose to hide the answers to their own tweets, as it is possible to do on a Facebook status for example.

But to avoid falling into censorship, everyone can still continue to see the hidden answers and continue the conversation with the authors of these unwanted tweets by clicking on the gray icon that will appear on these tweets.

"In this way, you have more control over the conversations you are going through, but people will still be able to see the conversation in its entirety," says Twitter.

"For the future, we are working on new control possibilities and greater clarity on our rules in conversation spaces," adds the platform.

In November 2016, Twitter had already tackled the problem of harassment or abusive behavior by extending the "mute" feature, which silences the accounts of "trolls" or users sending messages. inappropriate messages.
