The campaign for the presidential election of December 12 began Sunday in Algeria, but the five candidates are struggling to lead it as they see fit. Their meetings are held in the presence of police forces, and several have been disturbed by protesters, opposed to holding the presidential election under the current conditions.

Interrupted meetings, protests in front of the halls, slogans hostile to the presidential election, that's what the beginning of the campaign for the December 12 election in Algeria looks like. The candidates have been moving since Sunday to try to convince voters as thousands continue to demonstrate every Friday against the election.

Ali Benflis, who was Prime Minister of Abdelaziz Bouteflika in the early 2000s, was Monday in the East. His two meetings were disrupted. The first, by three protesters who were arrested, according to a local journalist. The second, by dozens of people massed outside to chant " no vote ". Same scenario for the candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, also former prime minister, in Adrar, in the center of the country.

Call for calm

The Algerian press reports anti-polling rallies in several other cities. Near Bejaia, the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights reports that police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesters and that there were three minor injuries. His Vice President calls for calm in this sensitive context.
