18 November 2019Venice breathes a sigh of relief and tries to restart after the third high water peak in a week registered yesterday. The tide reached 150 centimeters then but it fell quickly.

Today the schools, the museums reopen, the vaporetti will be in operation. Damage counts begin for the authorities and the people and activities affected. However, the state of alert for high water remains.

"We'll get back up like the Phoenix, the important thing is that the country is united," said Mayor Brugnaro.

Today the tide is slowly rising in Venice and will reach its maximum level at 13:20 with 110-115 centimeters, with the flooding of Piazza San Marco and 12% of calli and sestieri. As the Maree Center explains, the symbolic square of the Serenissima is one of the lowest points in the city and is beginning to flood already with a tide of more than 80 centimeters. While for Rialto, in front of the public transport wharves, it takes a quota of 105 centimeters, which however is expected today. It is a demanding but not devastating high water, to which the Venetians are more accustomed, even though many consecutive peaks have not seen them for years.
