The board of the Västra Götaland region received an oral presentation of the report a few days ago. This is an external investigation that was appointed by the regional management following SVT's review of the construction of the pediatric hospital in Gothenburg. A hospital that will be almost twice as expensive as estimated, namely almost SEK 2.2 billion.

- It is very regrettable and we have to sharpen our watchdog function so that the brakes strike in case any new building looks to be expensive. There is something seriously wrong with the culture when it could be this way, says Johnny Magnusson, (M), chairman of the regional board of SVT News West.

Opposition Councilor Helén Eliasson (S) has not yet read the report but says so after the oral draw she was on.

- I look very seriously at what happened. Internal controls have failed and decisions have been made without lifting it to politics. Now the matter has been handed over to the regional director who will adopt a number of measures, she says.

The ultimate responsibility

The criticism of Västfastigheter, which is highlighted in the report, concerns among other things the decision to build extra culverts even though the financing was not granted. Another point is the lack of control and the fact that there was no one responsible for correcting deviations such as animal costs. And that important decisions in the construction project, such as signing a contract, were made by the wrong people.

What do you have in the regional council for responsibility for this?

- Of course, we have the ultimate responsibility and there have been shortcomings in our supervisory duty. According to the municipal law, the regional council must follow up on what the council has decided. We have shortcomings, just read inside the report of the investigation, says Johnny Magnusson (M).

What are you doing to prevent this from happening again?

- We go through the report and correct the shortcomings mentioned. The main problem is that it has not been a correct approach and that rules have not been followed correctly.

Now the case has been handed over to the regional director and she has until December 10 to submit proposals for measures.
