An investigation was opened after the degradation of a monument to African soldiers in Sarcelles, north of Paris. This profanation, which occurred last Thursday, has aroused the indignation of many Sarcellois, elected to the citizen associations.

A black marble stele broken in half amidst wreathed wreaths of November 11th. The vision of this degradation of the monument dedicated to the memory of the soldiers of the colonial armies provoked strong reactions to Sarcelles.

They recall that it was after years of fighting for recognition of the blood shed by African soldiers for the French flag during the two world conflicts that this stele was finally inaugurated in May 2018.

No inscription or tag was in any case left on the monument, according to a source close to the survey cited by AFP.

The first images of CCTV show a man, alone, destroying the flowerbed before hitting the stele until it falls, according to this source. A man who has not been identified yet.
