Mainz (dpa) - Only nine days after his involuntary departure at 1 FC Cologne Achim Beierlorzer again has a job in the Bundesliga. The 51-year-old will be the new coach of relegation rivals FSV Mainz 05.
The Rheinhessen had separated after the 0: 8 at RB Leipzig and the 2: 3 against Union Berlin by Sandro Schwarz. Beierlorzer receives after club details a contract until the summer of 2022 and sitting in the game on Sunday (18.00 clock / Sky) at the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim first time on the bench of the table-16.
"In factual and content-wise Achim Beierlorzer is a typical coach for Mainz 05," commented FSV Sport Board Rouven Schröder in a press release. The coach said: "Surely this is a strange situation in football: a week ago I was still a coach in Cologne, now I will be presented in Mainz as a head coach."
Beierlorzer had collected with Cologne in eleven games only seven points, the Mainz have two more counters. The Franke is now to protect the self-proclaimed carnival club from falling at the end of the season after eleven years back to the lower house. The younger brother of former Bayern professional Bertram Beierlorzer already worked in various roles at RB Leipzig and was from 2017 to 2019 head coach at SSV Jahn Regensburg. Cologne had on Friday, only a week after the breakup, the 2021 ongoing contract with the coach dissolved. About the height of the compensation made the club no information.
Mainz had last shown a desperate performance in Leipzig and also against Berlin. The club withdrew therefore the native Black Mainz after two and a half years of confidence. After eleven matchdays, the team is with only nine points and a miserable goal ratio of 12:30 on the relegation place.
With today's start coaches Jürgen Klopp (Liverpool FC) and Thomas Tuchel (Paris Saint-Germain) Mainz had once promoted two home grown coaches. Klopp was made in 2002 by President Harald Strutz and manager Christian Heidel directly from player to coach. Tuchel trained for a year the U19, before he rose in 2009 to the boss. Klopp-buddy Schwarz had cared for the 2nd team of the Mainz and the U19.
